Antonio Somaini is Professor in Film, Media, and Visual Culture Theory at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, as well as a Senior Member of the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF). He recently was a Visiting Professor at Yale University and has been the chief curator of the exhibitions Time Machine: Cinematic Temporalities in Parma at the Palazzo del Governatore and Il dono /The Gift in Siena, New York, Chicago, and Scottsdale.

His research foci include film, media, and visual culture theory as well as media archaeology. Representative publications of his comprise Culture visuelle. Images, regards, médias, dispositifs (Dijon: Les Presses du Réel, 2022) and Repenser le médium. Art contemporain et cinema (Dijon: Les Presses du Réel, 2022). His work La haute et la basse définition des images. Photographie, cinéma, art contemporain, culture visuelle (Milan-Udine: Mimesis, 2021) is also amongst his most impactful projects.
