Francesco Casetti
Francesco Casetti is Sterling Professor of Humanities and Film and Media Studies at Yale University. Previously, he taught at the Universities of Genova, Trieste and Milan and was Visiting Professor at Université de Paris III – la Sorbonne Nouvelle and at Harvard University, among others. Casetti is co-founder of the „Permanent Seminar on History of Film Theories“ for Turin, an international network of film scholars. In his research and teaching, he engages with media semiotics and various other film and media theories, as well as the archeology of visual media.
Some of his most prominent books are Eye of the Century (Columbia University Press, 2008) and The Lumière Galaxy (Columbia University Press, 2015).
His latest project Screening Fears. On Protective Media, forthcoming with Zone Books this year, explores the fears that cinema and its mediation have provoked since its early beginnings, as well as the increasing interconnectedness of media and environment.
