e-Learning-Project "Image Spaces: On the Methodical Analysis of Cinematographic Forms of Presentation"
(Freie Universität Berlin, Center for Digital Systems (CeDis): e-Learning-Funding programme: 10/2005 - 2/2008)
The e-learning-project “Image spaces“ developed forms of representation and impartation for a systematic film analysis, which are based on contemporary discussions of image theory and aesthetics. The audiovisual structures of the cinematic image were in the center of the analysis. The aspects of the medium’s imagery which are often disregarded by the conventional models of film analysis, found special consideration: The affective, perceptive, and cognitive causal relationships of audiovisual images which precede the narrative or informative representations.
Connecting film analysis with various film-theoretical approaches as well as film-historical developments was the project’s central agenda. In addition to the audiovisual image’s autonomy and specific mode of perception, the historical dimension of the differentiation of audiovisual image forms was worked out as a media history of perception. The resulting teaching units and methodical instruments were developed with a focus on the basic modules of the film studies bachelor program, ‘film history’ and ‘film analysis’.
